WHY PLAY TENNIS AT THE IU TENNIS CENTER? FOR THE HEALTH OF IT!The Indiana University Tennis Center invites you to get out and play tennis for the health of it! With obesity and fitness making headlines, the United States Professional Tennis Association wants you to know that there are great health, fitness, and psychological benefits to playing tennis.
- People who play tennis at least three hours per week at a moderately vigorous intensity level cut the risk of or death from any cause in half.
- Tennis players score higher in levels of vigor, optimism, and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety, and tension than other athletes or non-athletes.
- Tennis outperforms golf and most other sports in developing positive personality characteristics.
- Competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics or cycling.
So, if you haven’t already, why not give tennis a try? Get healthy, stay fit, and have fun – playing tennis!
