May 2006 Commencement
Graduates and their families had a chance to reflect and celebrate their accomplishments
at the HPER Senior Send-off Luncheon on May 6, 2006. The School of HPER
provides an opportunity in December and May for its students to walk in a graduation
ceremony and be greeted by the Dean and their Department Chair.
The Senior Send-Off Luncheon was held in Mellencamp Pavilion immediately following commencement. Approximately 600 people attended the luncheon including 82 graduates.
Alumni Board President, Phil Bennett hosted the send-off luncheon. Phil said he “was very proud to represent the School of HPER Alumni Association in hosting the send-off luncheon at the spring commencement! It was an honor to meet so many of the excited graduates and their proud parents and family members.”
Robyn Werner, Human Development and Family Studies major from the Department of Applied Health Science, addressed the graduates, faculty and family members in the traditional student response during the program. “I know I speak for all of us in thanking the families and friends who have helped make this day possible through their incredible support and encouragement over the past few years. I know I also speak for all of us in expressing gratitude to the faculty who have so wholly devoted themselves to their students. To those here today, please know that you have truly touched our lives – and you have equipped us with the necessary knowledge and skills to touch the lives of others as we depart from Indiana University,” Werner said.
After years of hosting the send-off luncheon in the Mellencamp Pavilion, the School of HPER will be changing the location of the luncheon next year. The May send-off luncheon will be held in the Tennis Center, a facility under the umbrella of the School of HPER. The December luncheon will continue to be held in the Hoosier Room which is housed in Memorial Stadium.
Congratulations to all of our 2006 graduates! We hope you all stay involved with your alma mater as an active member of the Alumni Association. For information on Alumni Association membership, see their website at www.alumni.indiana.edu.
