Recent HPER Grads Are Already Recruiting
Kara Sullivan (center) received her BS in Exercise Science in ’06 and Megan Kelly (right) earned a BS in Public Health in ’05. This fall they joined Janean Starms (left), Recruiter for WebMD Health Services at the Government and Social Services Career Fair in Bloomington. HPER is very proud of these two young alums who went from students to recruiters in less than two years:
Kara’s story: “I was in the Kinesiology department of HPER, and upon graduation, I was contemplating several career choices. I knew was that I wanted to help people improve the quality of their lives somehow. I took advantage of the HPER Career Center website, and I started working at WebMD Health Services within a month of graduating. The job opportunity has been a perfect fit for me, as I have been able to help a wide variety of people improve their overall health by assisting them with smoking cessation, exercise programs, nutrition plans, diabetes management, stress management, and several other aspects of wellbeing. I feel as if I am using a lot of the knowledge I gained at IU and look forward to continuing to make a difference.”
Megan’s story: “Growing up I knew I wanted to be in a helping field and I found that in the Applied Health Sciences department of HPER. The professors and classes were valuable aids to understanding the broad spectrum that is public health education. Taking what I learned in school, I was able to apply this in my chosen career path. I now have the opportunity, as a health educator for WebMD Health Services, to help many people each day to make healthy lifestyle changes.”
