John R. Endwright Scholarship
Scholarship History:
John R. Endwright, former Dean of the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, devoted his entire professional career to administration, teaching, and counseling in the field of Physical Education. He is known by hundreds of school people as “Mr. Indiana Physical Educator” and was instrumental in helping to establish the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Indiana University. He served on many university committees during his tenure, as well as being active in the community, maintaining many professional service organization memberships, most notable of which being the National Chairperson of the Deans and Directors Council of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. John Endwright’s well-known statement that a school’s foundation would only be as strong as the relationships established between the school and its graduates illustrates his personal goal that everyone have the opportunity to reach their potential. This scholarship was established to honor his memory by his wife, Mrs. Martha Endwright.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Graduate status.
- Student at Indiana University in the Department of Kinesiology.
- Intends to pursue a career in teaching.
- Demonstrate financial need.
