Impact Scholarship
Scholarship History:
The purpose of this scholarship is to bring to the forefront two students who exemplify the philosophy of the Fitness Specialist degree program which is to provide the science and art of being a fitness professional. These two students must meet the criteria below. Each of these criteria plays a vital role in defining the value of the scholarship. We can make IMPACT in many ways in our lives. We do not have to hold public office, or make a lot of money, but we do have to care, we do have to have passion for what we do and demonstrate it, we do have to have a purpose for what we choose to do and when we do, we inspire, we empower and we make an IMPACT on the lives that we touch. This award is for the students who do this best in their time as an undergraduate student in the Fitness Specialist undergraduate degree program at Indiana University.
Character traits of an Impact Scholarship recipient:
I Inquisitive and Inspires: has a desire to learn, and inspires those around him/herself.
M Motivated: demonstrated by GPA and degree selection.
P Passionate: demonstrated thru work or volunteer experience.
A Active: physically presents as a positive role model of fitness and wellness.
C Certified: approved personal training certification.
T Traits: team oriented, thorough, thrives, tenuous.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Undergraduate status.
- Fitness Specialist undergrad with a GPA of 3.4 or above.
- Undergraduate must be of junior standing who will be entering his or her senior year.
- Demonstration of fitness instruction experience on the IUB campus and/or Bloomington community.
- Provides evidence of employment and/or volunteers time gaining experience in the fitness industry.
- Physically a role model of fitness and wellness.
- Provides evidence of the above character traits through two (2) recommendations letters from faculty and/or client or person they have worked with (one of each).
- Provides evidence of certification through a reputable, accredited Personal Training agency: ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA.
- Finally, each candidate must write a 1000 word essay describing how fitness has impacted their lives and how they have impacted a life in terms of fitness and wellness.
