Edna R. Munro Scholarship
Scholarship History:
The Edna F. Munro Physical Education Scholarship of Indiana University’s Department of Kinesiology was established in 1985 as a memorial to Edna F. Munro. In 1928 Miss Munro was appointed the first director of the Department of Physical Education for Women on the Bloomington campus. The Department was then under the auspices of the IU School of Education, later becoming a major academic unit of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation which was established in 1946. Miss Munro was named the first Chair of the Department of Physical Education for Women in the new School. This scholarship was made possible by proceeds from the estate of Miss Munro and special gifts from her sister Mary Munro. Mary Munro, now deceased, resided at IU’s Meadowood Retirement Community in Bloomington for many years following her sister’s death. She enjoyed following the activities of the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
