Marjorie R. Phillips Scholarship
Scholarship History:
Dr. Marjorie P. Phillips, a faculty member of the Department of Physical Education for Women, was the first woman at Indiana University to be given the prestigious Frederic Bachman Lieber Award for distinguished teaching. In May, 1961, this fund was inaugurated by 15 women graduate students, colleagues Dean Summers and Hilda Sherwin, and other alumnae of the School of HPER for the purpose of providing a graduate award for academic achievement and professional potentiality in women’s physical education at Indiana University. In honoring Dr. Phillips, the group wished to recognize all members of the Women’s Physical Education Department who gave unstintingly of their time to graduate students.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Graduate status.
- Female.
- Declared major in Kinesiology.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
- Preference will be given to those who, through their vitae and work experience, exhibit the following characteristics: integrity, professionalism and dedication to their chosen field.
- Scholarships are to be used to assist the recipients in the payment of tuition, fees and/or book costs.
- Recipients may receive the scholarship a second year.
