J.K. Rash Scholarship
Scholarship History:
J. K. Rash was the first recipient of the H.S.D., doctor of health and safety in 1949, and was immediately made a member of the faculty; later to serve as professor and chairman for twenty years. During his tenure, Dr. Rash was involved with approximately 100 doctoral dissertations. Dr. Rash was a pioneer in the development of a health and safety education curriculum separate from physical education. He maintained that health and safety education involved a sufficient body of knowledge to justify a discipline of its own, and in 1958 authored the first publication devoted to the development of health curriculums. Of note, Dr. Rash’s daughter, Marjorie, originally designed the School of HPER logo. This scholarship was funded by Dr. Rash, his family and friends.
