HPER Professor Wins IU Grant for Research on Asthma and Fish Oil
Tim Mickleborough will compare efficacy of fish oil to a common asthma drug
Kinesiology professor Tim Mickleborough has earned funding from Indiana University’s Faculty Research Support Program (FRSP). The $66,000 FRSP grant will support a study comparing the efficacy of fish oil supplementation with Montelukast, a commonly used asthma medication, on exercise-induced bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation in people with asthma.
Mickleborough contends that new therapies for asthma are needed that are safe, effective, relatively inexpensive, likely to be used by patents with asthma, and may have beneficial effects beyond asthma.
The objective of the Faculty Research Support Program is to support the general development, expansion or enhancement of faculty research and creative activity. Focus on research contributions to increasing academic, intellectual and scholarly activity and on potential for attracting future external research funding.
