HPER Building - Laboratories

A room with counters and equipmentNutrition Science Laboratories

The Department of Applied Health Science’s nutrition science laboratories allow students to practice a wide range of laboratory techniques. The research laboratories include an instrumentation laboratory, an analytical procedures laboratory, and a diet-mixing facility for research animal diets. The classroom teaching laboratory features seven student workstations and a central demonstration bay.

Graduate students in the Department of Kinesiology use these laboratories to conduct research on human performance in the areas of exercise biochemistry, biomechanics, clinical exercise physiology, exercise physiology, motor control, neuro-behavior, and sport psychology.


A large gymnasiumWildermuth Intramural Center

Wildermuth Intramural Center, originally called the Fieldhouse, was built in 1928 as an addition to the Men’s Gymnasium. All registered students have access to its facilities, which include three multipurpose gyms, 10 basketball/volleyball courts, 12 racquetball/squash courts, and 10 outdoor tennis courts.


A swimming poolRoyer Pool

The home of IU’s champion swimming and diving teams for years, Royer Pool now serves as an instructional and recreational pool. It also houses the Aquatics Institute and its centers, the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming and the Academic Diving Program.

Located in the Men’s Gymnasium, Pool 194 serves as an instructional and recreational pool.


A dance studioDance Studio

The dance studio houses the Department of Kinesiology’s Contemporary Dance Program. The program combines instruction in contemporary dance technique with scholarly inquiry into the history, science, and aesthetics of dance. Admission is by audition only.
